This pair of Japanese Imari Tea Plates is from the latter half of the 19th century. The pattern is called "Rokkasen" and depicts 6 different persons from Japanese history. Here goes: (1) Sojo Henjo / Archbishop Henjo (816-890). (2) Ariwara-no-Narihira (825-880). (3) Fun'ya-no-Yasuhide (years of birth & death unknown. (4) Monk Kisen (years of birth & death unknown). (5) Ono-no-Komachi (years of birth & death unknown, but by one account was a maid of honor for the Emperor Ninmyo (833-850). (6) Otomo-no-Kuronhi (years of birth & death unknown, possibly a court official of the Jogan period.
