Japanese triptych woodblock by Toyokuni III. From the Wakana chapter of the Tale of Genji. Mid to late 1800s, not commonly seen. Depicting the third, wife of Prince Genji, at a window overlooking three boys playing ball, watched by Kashiwagi and his companion.  As the princess and her attendants watch her kitten climbing a pillar, she is briefly seen by Kashiwagi, who falls in love. Highly detailed print and a lovely story!
