An Ilkhanid gold multiple presentation dinar from the reign of Muhammad Khudabanda Oljaitu (AD 1304-1317) Baghdad, dated AH 709/ AD 1309-1310 with a quatrefoil medallion containing inscriptions in naskhi surrounded by lines of inscription in naskhi to one side, five lines of inscriptions in kufic surrounded by a band of inscription in naskhi to the other, about extremely fine and very rare 29 mm. approx; 17.12 g. Inscriptions: the shi'i shahadah and the call to God to bless Muhammad and the Twelve Imams. The Ilkhanids, the Mongol dynasty of Iran, were founded by Hulagu, the brother of the Great Mongol leader Möngke around AD 1256. Oljaitu, brother of Ghazan Khan, became Khan in AD 1304. Under his rule contact with Europe was increased and many embassies opened.
