(19) Manuscript Letters from John Penington Hopkinson (1801 - 1836) (son of Joseph Hopkinson, 1770-1842) from the years 1828 & 1829. International stampless folded letters some with wax seals, some stamped 'Ship'. Addressed primarily to family in Philadelphia and sent from London, Havre, Paris, Munich, Florence, all are signed "J.P.H." - Hopkinson was a physician and demonstrator in anatomy at the University of Pennsylvania until he died in 1836 at age 35. He details his accounts and medical interventions throughout the letters following him at sea and throughout Europe. The letters also reference his studies, American Politics and the Presidential Election, as well as "The Count" (Joseph Bonaparte 1768 -1844). There are beautifully preserved wax seals, including several reading "Semper Paratus", which is the Hopkinson family motto. Most of the letters are two, three and four pages of tight manuscript. From the Francis Hopkinson Family Archives
