Beautifully bound and presented "Unfinished MSS of Joseph Hopkinson - The Life of Alexander Hamilton". Broken up into the individual Notebooks that were written by Hopkinson (1770 - 1842), with a total of nearly 250 pages. Joseph was clearly influenced by the death of Hamilton on July 12th 1804, and named his son Alexander Hamilton Hopkinson when he was born August 4th 1804. These bound notebooks begin dated Monday Dec. 6th 1820, and are "Contents of Box No. 1". He then proceeds to number and describe (or partially / fully transcribe) the contents of hundreds of letters, detailing the sender, recipient and general purpose of each letter. The intent, presumably, was to write a book named "The Life of Alexander Hamilton" using information from his personal letters. Names mentioned include George Washington, Oliver Wolcott, Robert Morris, John Adams, John Jay among many others. From the Francis Hopkinson Family Archives
