Francis Hopkinson (1737 - 1791) signed document "In the Court of Admiralty of the State of Pennsylvania" also signed by Charles Grant, the British politician and Chairman of the British East India Company. The document details the sworn statement of Charles Grant pertaining to the case Phineas Eldridge vs the Brigantine York. (Grant, Captain of York and Eldridge, captain of Fair American) Also included is the "decree" from the same case, both are dated 1781 and signed by Francis Hopkinson. The decree states that the contents of The York are to be "lawful Prize" and sold with the monies divided and given to several parties including the owners of the Fair American.
