Matthew Panana (Jemez Pueblo, 20th century), pink stone, 1994. Contemporary sculpture of a Native American chieftain, on wood base. Dimensions: 13 inches tall X 10 1/4 inches wide; 33 cm tall X 26 cm wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: No noted damage. Provenance: From a collection in Northern Virginia. Artist Biography: Matthew Panana is a graduate of IAIA (Institute of American Indian Arts) and was commissioned to create a monumental sculpture for the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque. He is also a first prize winner in stone works at the Santa Fe Indian market judged competitions.
