A pair of Chinese ****** bowls with 6-character Daoguan***arks and of the period. The interior of each bowl features a red 5-clawed ****** chasing a flaming pearl. The exterior depicts red and green ******s with a pair of phoenixes among floral tracery. There is a top band of the 8 Buddhist emblems. It is accompanied by an old box. Dimensions are: 2 1/2 inches tall X 6 inches diameter, 6.4 cm tall X 15.2 cm wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Overall good condition, the foot of 1 features a chip due to a firing defect. Provenance: From Mr. Kung in Vancouver, Canada, inherited from his father, who acquired this **** in Hong Kong and had it shipped to Canada before the 1970s. Lots 194-198 from our auction on Sept 6th, 2019 were from the same estate. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has A similar pair of ****** bowls dating from the Kangxi period, under accession numbers: 50.221.4 and 50.221.5 (fig. 1). A pair of ****** and phoenix bowls with Daoguang 6-character marks were sold at auction by Christie' s New York on September 15, 2011, Lot 1638.
