金刚手菩萨是《大乘八大曼萘罗经》记载的辅助释迦牟尼佛教化的八大菩萨之一。此尊金刚手菩萨造像为紫檀木制，头着五叶宝冠，发丝刻画清晰明了，可见做工之精细。颈饰璎珞，两颊丰满，大耳垂下，缀有圆形大耳环。足立于束腰莲花宝座之上，臂、腕皆饰钏环，下身着贴身罗裙，饰璎珞珠宝。左手自然下垂持金刚杵，肩披帔帛，自然垂落，极为写实。身体呈三折姿势站立，头和臀部向左倾斜，上身向右偏倚。整体姿态优美，形象生动。佛教通常将沉香、檀香、紫檀、绿檀、黑檀，称为「佛教五檀」或「圣檀」，因为五者木质坚硬不朽，香气芬芳永恒，辟邪迎祥，百毒不侵，并且认为用这五种檀木所制作的佛像为上品。
