"如意"一词出于印度梵语"阿娜律"。最早的如意，柄端作手指之形，以示手所不能至，搔之可如意。也有柄端作"心"形的，用竹、骨、铜、玉制作。讲僧持之记文于上，以备遗忘。玉如意始于魏晋，盛于明清。如明、清两代，取如意之名，表示吉祥如意，幸福来临。此件如意通体鎏金，其上雕刻福寿纹，寓意吉祥，十分少见。如意金色明亮，鎏金细腻，保存十分完整，值得收藏。
