A partially glazed Chinese sancai amphora with 2 dragon handles, dating from the Tang dynasty. Dimensions: 15 1/2 inches tall X 8 inches wide; 39.4 cm tall X 20.3 cm wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: There are several chips to the foot and minor age wear. Provenance: From Mrs. Williams in Mills Valley, California; the piece is a family heirloom. The Metropolitan Museum of New York has in its collection two sancai-glazed amphoras, accession number 65.82.1 (fig. 1) and 1984.483.3 (fig. 2). Similar pieces have been sold at Sotheby's New York on March 19, 2019 as lot 123 and at Christie’s New York on March 24, 2011 as lot 2516. Click here for high resolution images
