900-1100 AD. Viking Age. A rare bronze zoomorphic amulet comprising a hexagonal frame surrounding a stylised figure of a person with hands held by their sides and legs akimbo; the space between the legs is filled, suggesting that they are wearing of a skirt and, by extension, that the figure should be identified as a woman. This unusual piece of anthropomorphic art may represent Jörð (from the Old Norse jǫrð, "earth"), the personification of earth and a goddess in Norse mythology. She is the mother of the thunder god Thor, and a wife of Odin Odin.
