Daunian terracotta kalpis in a cream fabric with flaring rim, globular body, flattened bottom and upturned lug handles; three painted red bands run around the outside of the body to create a visually pleasing effect. A kalpis or hydriskos is a small vessel for collecting, transporting and serving water, invented by the ancient Greeks before being adopted by many Mediterranean societies.
