Voltz / München 7[...] PROVENANCE: Private collection, Germany; By descent to present owner. The German animal and landscape painter and illustrator Ludwig Gustav Voltz belonged to an artistic family from Augsburg. He attended the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich, and specialized in equestrian painting. He found patronage among the princes Thurn and Taxis and Wallerstein for whom he produced meticulous portraits of their horses. Later in his career he devoted himself to paintings of the hunt.
