“素三彩”一词首先在清末寂园叟《陶雅》中：“西人以康熙黄、茄、绿三色之瓷品为素三彩”，其中的“三”代表多数，无特定含意。之后，民国初年的许之衡在《饮流斋说瓷》中也提到：“茄、黄、绿三色绘成花纹者谓之素三彩”。素三彩瓷器早在明代成化时期已出现，是在唐三彩的基础上发展而来的，并取得一定成就。到了清代在明代基础上进一步发展，而成为清代康熙时期的名品，雍正以后各朝便很少制作，直到晚清光绪时才出现仿康熙素三彩，因此康熙素三彩瓷器颇负盛名。此器仿青铜爵杯造型，工艺复杂，先刻纹饰于瓷胎上，入窑一次烧后再加绘纹样二次烧成。全器色彩搭配艳丽，纹饰多样，带原红木底座，更显浓烈的贵族气派。
