Appointment of David Lawrence as 5th Sergeant of Co C, 25th Regiment of Maine Volunteers, from the Headquarters at Camp Tom Casey in Arlington Heights, Virginia, where they were part of the defense of Washington DC in the 1st Brigade, 22nd Division. Signed by Lt. Col. Charles E. Shaw, Commander of the Regiment, and Thomas C. Hubbard, Adjutant. The 25th mustered in for 9 months at Portland, Maine on Sept 25th, 1862, mustered out on July 10, 1863, consisted of 960 men.; PLUS Last Will and Testament of William Wingate of Farmington, New Hampshire, Gentleman; in which he bequeaths one fourth of all produce and income of 'his' farm to his wife Deborah. He then details how all of the crops should be brought in and stored, and preparations made for winter, down to the 'cyder' and fire wood. He details the livestock. He gives the eldest son and four married daughters one dollar each, then a furnished house to the youngest, unmarried daughter. and a share of the farm to the youngest son. Signed on the 5th of April, 1820. Docketed with note that this was the grandfather of Ernest Kimball.
