An Italian ivory model of the Virgin and Child, after Our Lady of Trapani, late 17th/early 18th century, depicted standing in flowing robes, supporting the seated Christ child in her left arm, 13.5cm high Note: the fourteenth century Basilica of Maria Santissma Annuniziate in Trapani, Sicily, houses a marble statue of the Madonna of Trapani, attributed to Nino Pisano upon which the current lot is based. The neck of the Christ Child has been broken and restored with a composite material. Christ's right foot is missing. Traces of old polychrome to the base.
