A Swedish Empire gilt-bronze standish, early 19th century, with two urn-shaped inkwells with detachable covers flanking a lidded compartment, on a base with classically cast tablets, engraved 'Carl Grabow, Sextioarsdagen', 39cm wide 30cm high Carl Grabow (1790-1859) was a German born entomologist. He was an insect dealer in Dresden who collected in Germany, Spain and Portugal. Condition report: Ink well finials slightly bent, lightly tarnished overall.
