An oak chest or small coffer, mid 18th century, the double hinged top with brass handles, raised on bracket feet,with fitted interior, 59cm high, 60cm wide 37cm deep, together with an oak close stool, late 17th century, the hinged top above three dummy drawers to the front, 49cm high, Width 48cm, 42cm deep Provenance: From the estate of Jacqueline Diffring (1920-2020), Châteauneuf-Grasse, French Riviera. An accomplished sculptress and teacher, in 2007 she established The Jacqueline Diffring Foundation, dedicated to promoting art and culture, awarding a yearly €5000 prize to a young international sculptor. Her sister's diaries have been uncovered and detail her smuggling children out of Nazi Germany in the war .
