Two Nathaniel Barber Signed Receipts. Two pages, 7.75" x 6" and 7.75" x 7.5", Ordnance Store, Boston, Massachusetts; November 20, 1776. Two receipts, adhered along the left margin, for firearms. The first page reads in full: "This may Certify that Mr. Joshua Hatheway delivered into the Store the 19th of June part thirty three Firearms Amounting to three hundred & thirty eight dollars for which I then gave him a receipt." The second page reads in full: "This may Certify that Mr. Toby delivered into the Ordinance Store at Cambridge...twelve Firearms amounting to thirty four pounds Seventeen shillings equal to One hundred & Sixteen dollars & 1/6 of a dollar for which he received a receipt from Ezekiel Cheever Esqr.as by the books appears." Both are signed, "Nathl. Barber Junt. Depy Commy. Artillery." The first receipt is docketed on the verso. Nathaniel Barber (1728-1787) was a Boston Tea Party participant and the commissary of Boston's military stores until 1781. He was also a State Naval Officer of Boston.
