Arthur Wardle United Kingdom,1864-1949 Depicts two elephants walking side by side beside water glistening with moonlight. Wardle as a teenager exhibited at the 1880 Royal Academy while widely self taught, his move to London however proved fruitful in improving his animal imagery due to his close proximity to the London Zoo. From this, Wardle was able to portray vast emotions to his animal subjects, combining them with fashionable woman or creating mythical human-animal hybrids. Oil on canvas,Canvas 14" x 17",Frame 21 1/2" x 24 3/4" From the collection of a North Stonington, Connecticut gentleman.
