A choice Gandharan stucco head from the Indus Valley, ca. 4th - 5th Century AD. This large example is 4-1/4 inches high and portrays a Bodhisattva with elongated ears, pierced lobes and Urna, wearing an ornate, gem-studded headdress. His hair is gathered in a top knot and flows in curls along the side of the head. In excellent condition, retaining traces of the red and black pigment typical of the Hadda types. In excellent condition, with strong mineral deposits. Mounted on stand. Cf. Pal "Indian Sculpture", page 221. (IV560)
