18 kt Gold. Hinged oval bangle with finely chased Historicist decoration “à quatre couleurs” on a matte ground. The edge decorated with sumptuous flower garlands and putti in the Louis XV style. Hallmarks: Paris hallmark for necklaces, maker's mark “CD” with a sword and rhombus. W 2.3 cm. Diameter 5.9 x 4.8 cm. Weight 57.99 g. Charles Duron, Paris ca. 1860. Charles Duron was one of the leading goldsmiths working in Paris in the mid-19th century. He opened a studio there in 1850 and exhibited Historicist goldsmith's work in the 16th/17th century style at the 1855 (Médaille d'Or, 1st class) and 1867 World's Fairs in Paris and 1862 in London. His patrons included the Rothschild family, the Marquess of Hertford, and Alfred Morrison. Examples of his works can be found today in the British Museum, the Musée d'Orsay and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
