A HEAVILY CAST BRONZE TRIPOD CENSER China, late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The censer with a compressed globular body raised on three legs issuing from the mouths of horned mythical beasts and showing a pair of s-shaped handles. The neck is finely incised with a circumferential leiwen pattern. With a wood cover surmounted by a soapstone finial, the latter possibly a later addition. Condition: With surface wear and repairs to the handles, underside, and part of the legs. The reattached finial shows remains of glue. Provenance: Austrian Private collection.
