Gino Vanelli (Bergamo 1896 – Monza 1969) He studied at the conservatory in his home town, where he made his debut in 1917 as Perichaud in La Rondine, subsequently appearing in numerous provincial theatres. From the 1920s onwards, he also appeared abroad: Cairo in 1924, Madrid in 1925, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires in 1926-28, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo. In 1926, as Ping in Turandot, he made his important debut at La Scala, where he appeared regularly for the next twenty years, as well as in several of the main Italian theatres. A baritone with a lyrical voice, his favourite roles were Sir Riccardo, Ashton, Belcore, Sharpless, Marcello and Silvio.
