Marmaduke Cradock (1660-1716) A peacock and peahen with other ornamental fowl by a lake oil on canvas 70 x 90cm, in an ornate black and parcel-gilt frame Provenance: Farm House, Farm Street, Mayfair, London. Condition report: The canvas appears to have been recently relined. There is craquelure throughout. Seen under UV: the surface is covered with a patchy layer of green varnish which makes any reading of retouching difficult. However, there does appear to be retouching in places throughout the composition, most significantly to the pond and parts of the landscape to the lefthand side. There are touches of retouching to the peacock's neck and the central background, and some touches to the foreground. Well presented in a parcel gilt frame and ready to hang.
