Raffaele Frigerio (Italian, 1875-1948) Lighting the old man's pipe signed 'R Frigerio' l.r., oil on canvas 30 x 45.5cm; Short-changed signed 'R Frigerio' l.r., oil on canvas 31 x 41cm (2) Provenance: The Omell Galleries, Bury Street, London, exhibition 7 December 1976, where acquired by the vendor. Condition report: Both works are executed in oil on canvas and have been lined. In the painting with the peasant and priest, lining has caused areas of impasto to be pushed back into the canvas. Overall the support and paint layers on both works are in a good, stable condition. Small areas of retouching are slightly matte. The varnish layers are even, glossy and slightly yellowed. There are some light scratches to the varnish layer on the work with the boy lighting a pipe.
