Count Albert de Belleroche (1864-1944) 'La couture' - a woman sewing by an open window signed 'Belleroche' l.r., oil on canvas laid on board 41 x 39.5cm Exhibited: Leicester Galleries, London, 'Exhibition of works by Albert de Belleroche', April 1954, where purchased by Mrs Dean of the Pearl & Dean family; a gift from her to the family of the present owner and by descent. Condition report: Oil on canvas which has been laid onto a wooden board. The adhesion between the canvas and board is poor and is lifting in the lower left quadrant with undulations. There are scattered losses around the edge of the canvas although the paint layer is stable overall. There are localised areas of retouching in the sitter’s dress which are very matte compared to the surrounding area. The varnish is yellowed but glossy and even.
