A Louis XIV Ormolu-Mounted Brass-Inlaid Red Tortoiseshell Boulle Marquetry Mantel Clock on Stand* 18th century with later alterations and additions, Louis Mynuel (French, 1675-1742) The backplate signed, 'Mynuel AParis.' (H: 43 3/4, W: 22 1/4, D: 9 in.) Provenance Property from a private American collection. Footnote: Note *Please note that this lot may be subject to CITES import/export restrictions because it contains tortoiseshell. Freeman's does not provide CITES documentation for import/export. Condition report: Condition commensurate with age and use. Some lifting, cracking, losses, and repairs to tortoiseshell. The clock carcass is 18th century, though much of the bronze mounts appear to be later additions, glass all replaced. Some wear, losses, and refreshments to gilding and marquetry, areas of tortoiseshell filled in. Cartouche possibly a later addition. Figural finial reset and reattached, the trumpet is bent. To carcass, insect damage to some of the wood, some areas of restoration. Clock not tested for functionality, working condition not guaranteed. Break and loss to clock's second hand. Sold with doorkey and pendulum.
