Chinese Bronze 39" Traveling Scholar & Child Signed Seven Piece Censor W/High Relief & Incised Details - This stunning, monumental piece is a Chinese solid bronze censor. The censor consists of seven pieces, and has a traveling scholar and student motif. The scholar and student rest on top of a mountain, with a fierce dragon resting at the mountain's base. They are elaborately decorated with incised details. The piece is then accented with ornate open work that creates scenes of flying cranes, followed by incised geometrical accents. The middle portion of the censor is decorated in high relief, with six panels each containing a different immortal scene. The scenes are as follows: an immortal riding on a winged koi fish, immortal taming a fierce dragon, riding on a dragon, riding a horse, riding on a crane, and riding a fenghuang. The censor rests on a globular base, that has been decorated with incised geometrical details, and is being held up by six fu lions. Underneath the globe the fu dogs rest on a pedastal base, which is decorated with various accents in high relief, including a fan, plant, scroll, and other ornate details. The censor is finished with two mounted dragon handles, that are beautiful works of art in themselves. This is truly a magnificent piece of the highest quality, fit for a noble. The censor is signed with two characters underneath the base. Measures 39"H x 19"W x 13"D.
