An Indian Sandstone Female Deity Temple Element, Rajasthan-Madhya Pradesh, India, 10th-11th century 37 x 11 x 11 inches (94.0 x 27.9 x 27.9 cm) The present figure represents a Hindu goddess who cannot be identified for her lack of hand implements and attendants. Her elaborate ornamentation and the sacred cord that lays between her breasts, however, identify her as a divinity. The sensuous curves of this female figure match the fluidity of those found at tenth-eleventh-century Hindu complexes such as the famous site of Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh.
