A FINE AND LARGE LATE 19TH CENTURY BERLIN K.P.M. PORCELAIN PLAQUE DEPICTING JUDITH HOLDING HER SWORD painted by R. Dittrich after the painting by Nathaniel Sichel (German, 1843-1907), depicting Judith holding a gold sword with an attendant beside her, both richly dressed in silk gowns and with gold jewellery, titled and signed to the reverese, impressed sceptre and KPM above H and incised numerals, in a giltwood frame, 32cm.x 19.5cm, the frame 54cm x 41cm Good condition. Nathaniel Sichel trained at the Royal Academy of Art in Munich and later at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris where he won the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1864. This depiction of Judith is typical of his work which featured Orientalist and historic subjects.
