A late 17th century Flemish European ormolu mounted ebony and red tortoiseshell cabinet on stand, of architectural form, with two central doors opening to reveal a nonsuch faux architectural interior, with bone and tortoiseshell 'tiled' floor, mirrored panels and hand painted back panel depicting a fountain in a garden, surrounded by ten further drawers over a brushing slide and standing upon spiral fluted columns with bun feet. This brilliantly-coloured Flemish cabinet is typical of the highly intricate pieces to have come out of Flanders in the baroque period. The fashion for black furniture here, with ebonised details, but relieved by gilt-metal mounts and red-stained tortoiseshell. Such cabinets formed an international style that was sourced from as diverse countries as China, Japan, Italy, Spain or Bohemia to name a few. This piece retains its original ormolu cabinet fittings. Dimensions: W.124cm D.46cm H.187cm. Similar sold at Peter Wilson July 8 Fine Sale Hammered £22,000
