本品精铜制，材质精良，入手极沉，包浆醇厚细腻。铜牛昂首，双目圆睁，两角竖起，背部高起，骨立筋张，四足有力，形象生动，惟妙惟肖。可见本品当出于名家之手，非俗匠所能为。铜牛有静穆古雅之美。铜牛以精铜铸造成形，再略施刀法雕刻细节，俯卧于地，头微微上昂，炯炯双目凝视前方，形象生动写实。身姿健壮厚实，线条圆润，全身光亮漆黑，仅颈、额、尾雕刻褶皱、牛毛等细节，寥寥数刀即添神韵。在牛身下一只小牛安详的卧于大牛身下，舔犊情深，画面温馨和谐。局部可见原铜本色，更添牛身肌骨层次。
