A Sassanid gilded silver appliqué, 6th centuryLarge round silver appliqué designed as a three-dimensional big cat's head. Eyes, eyebrows, lips and fangs are gilded. A wreath of cats' backs around the round head. Recessed and later cold-worked silver plate. The edge slightly bumped and torn in places, small missing part above the head. Otherwise intact. Without additions. Diameter 16 cm. Height 5.5 cm. Weight 179 g. Provenance: From a private collection in Rhineland-Palatinate, form the grandfather.Condition: II -
