4th-6th century AD. A redware lamp with squat D-section body, D-shaped nozzle, two filling holes to the discus, raised column design between, concentric circles and quartered square motifs bordering, basal ring; together with a gypsum lamp mould of the same type. Cf. Dark, K., Byzantine Pottery, Tempus, 2001, p.41, for a very similar Early Byzantine lamp. 780 grams total, 16cm (6 1/4"). From the collection of a deceased gentleman, Preston, Lancashire; acquired from central London ADA members gallery before 2000. Condition Report Fine condition.
