A bronze spectacle brooch of Type I, formed as a single length of round-section wire with a pair of small reversed loops between, one end hooked to form the catchplate and the other extended for the pin. Cf. Hattatt, R., Ancient and Romano-British Brooches, Sherborne, 1982, item 186. 52 grams, 11.6cm (4 1/2"). Property of a gentleman from Vienna; from his private collection; previously acquired in Munich, Germany, between 1992 and 1996.
