7th-8th century AD. A gilt discoid pin head, the principal face ornamented with a chip-carved cross, trefoil knotwork in each quarter. Cf. Webster, L. & Backhouse, J., The Making of England. Anglo-Saxon Art and Culture AD 600-900, London, 1991, items 184, 185, for the comparable Witham pin-set and the Bolnhurst pinhead. 11.8 grams, 38mm (1 1/2").
