Northern France, 14th century AD. A carved oak female bust (Madonna?) with draped veil and scooped neckline to her robe; the head in a drooping attitude and slightly turned, with doleful expression; crown worn over the veil with foliage ornament; remains of original gesso(?) foundation, white and red pigment; probably the upper part of a larger sculpture of the Saint Dié group.
