此碗敞口，深腹，圈足。通体施孔雀蓝釉，外壁通景以褐彩描绘十八学士在幽静的庭院中，或观赏画作，或下棋对弈，人物神态安详，悠闲自得，一派恬淡的世外情怀。画面中人物的年龄、衣饰、神态各异，但都刻画生动，极为传神，具有浓厚的文人气息。十八学士典故出自贞观年间，唐太宗李世民因战功卓著，被封为尚书令、天策上将，可以开府治事，自辟僚属，遂以杜如晦、房玄龄、虞世南等十八人并为学士，商议治国平天下之策。后令画家阎立本为十八学士画像，即《十八学士写真图》，后世也成为圣主得贤臣的典型，亦成为中国绘画的传统题材。
