A Rare Chinese Sancai Glazed Double Handled Mouse JarTang DynastyOf a slightly elliptical shape and rises from a small round foot to its shoulders where two handles in the form of mice are attached, one end of the mice model on the body and the head end of the mice model on the shoulder, two molded prunus flowers one on each side of the jar, the body giving way to a well-proportioned neck and mouth rim. The entire jar is covered with a sky-blue glaze over which other sancai color glazes in green, cream, browns of different shades and deeper blues have been applied in a dappled pattern with the glazes pouring down the mouth rim and ending irregularly above the foot to a light brown wash glaze which covers the foot and some of the base, leaving the rest of the base exposed so the stoneware can be seen . Note:Tang sancai jars with handles in the form of animals or with images of animals or people on the body of the jar are rare.
