A Fine Chinese Longquan Celadon Petal-Carved Conical BowlSouthern Song-Yuan DynastyThe slightly rounded sides are carved on the exterior with a dense band of slender upright lotus petals rising from the small ring foot to the mouth rim. The bowl is covered inside and out with a glaze of soft greenish color, with a darker green glaze pooling below the mouth rim that highlights the density of the lotus petals, the glaze stopping smartly on the foot rim and then continuing on the inside. Diameter 8 1/2 inches. Provenance:The Estate of a Chicago Collector, 1970's Note:The bowl offered here is identical to the celadon petal-carved bowl in the Falk Collection, Christies New York 15 October 2001, lot 121 (Realized price USD 17,625) in the density of the band of lotus petals carved on the circumference of the bowl. However, on the present bowl the glaze stops more perfectly on the foot and exposes how the foot was burnt orange in the firing. An example of a similar bowl in both the pooling of the glaze below the mouth rim and the glaze stopping smartly on the foot. See Christies New York 21 Mar 2019, lot 1714 (Realized price USD 25,000).C Property from the Collection of Steven J. Harvis
