Diameter of the base ca. 16cm, glass dome, wooden base numbered Glashütte 1880, escapement model with a unique experimental chronometer escapement, to our knowledge the only known example, chronometer balance, special chronometer escapement, helical hairspring, ruby endstone, magnificently engraved cock, intact. This escapement model is an absolute rarity and a museum collector's piece. Hugo Prahl was born in Prussian Friedland (today the Polish Debrzno) on 27 January 1883. He studied at the German Watchmaking School in Glashütte from 1 May 1907 to 19 June 1908. He was one of only two students (2nd Eduard Luther) who received a diploma for his outstanding work at the public examination of the German Watchmaking School in 1908, given by Prof. Strasser himself, the head of the Glashütte school at the time. Proud of his movement Prahl had a gold case made with his monogram and thememoration of the end of the examination in May 1908, which was very rare for apprentice watches. Hemissioned this to F. Ehehalt in Stuttgart, who was originally an employee at Lange & Söhne, but then became self-employed and made several cases for Glashütte apprentice watches. Other student works by Hugo Prahl included a micrometer calliper no. 1812, a chronometer escapement model no. 1880 and a marine chronometer no. 1919. (source: https:///go/WaL).
