The shape resembles an old type of wine vessel called lei. The main sides have low reliefs of animal masks that can be described as taotie designs. A carved monster head is seated on one side of the shoulder of the vessel, and on the opposite side there are figurines of the God of longevity (Shoulao), a deer and a long-haired man in Western clothing sculptured in high relief. The large knob of the flat lid is carved in openwork design of a shou (longevity) character motif.
