A Chinese gilt and painted lacquered wood figure of Avalokiteshvara 漆金观音木造像 Late Ming/early Qing dynasty 晚明或清 Seated in vajraparyankasana on a double-lotus base with beaded edges, the right hand curled in lap, the left hand raised to the chest and curled; clad in robes fastened high around the waist and secured with a belt, with outer robes loosely draped over the shoulders and cascading in voluminous folds around the feet; portrayed with a serene countenance framed by a pair of pendulous earlobes, all below a five-leafed diadem, centered by a seated figure of the Buddha.
