A Peter Muller Carved Macaw Couple in Amethyst on Quartz and Tourmaline Base, 20th century 15 inches tall (38.1 cm) (including base) These whimsical Macaws, locked in obvious argumentative conversation, display an almost "humanlike" quality when viewed in their dynamic positioning on tilted mineral base. Both Macaws are carved from a translucent lavender Amethyst and feature golden Agate beaks as well as exotic Rhodolite Garnet eyes. This playful scene features one Macaw with wings spread and turning away from his inquisitive partner, while the other bird is looking up to make its point with wings folded simply trying to avoid confrontation. The beautiful couple sits perched asymmetrically on rock of opaque Quartz studded with multiple crystals of watermelon Tourmaline showing the classic forest green rind with dark cranberry color Rubellite cores. The wonderful sculpture measures 15 inches (38.1 cm) tall, 11.25 inches (28.58 cm) wide and 12 inches (30.48 cm) deep. The Macaw with the open wings has a wingspan measuring 11 inches (27.94 cm) and is 10.5 inches (26.67 cm) long. The bird with folded wings is 10.25 inches (26.03 cm) long. The piece features an acrylic base measuring 6.25 inches (15.88 cm) wide, 7.75 inches (19.69 cm) deep and 2.25 inches (5.72 cm) high. This fabulous carving features master artist Peter Müller's own collection number 9640. HID03101062020© 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
