A Peter Muller Carved Hoopoe in Obsidian on Quartz and Diopside Base, 20th century 14 inches tall (35.6 cm) (including base) This unique looking bird is a Hoopoe painstakingly carved out of Obsidian and both yellow and white Quartz. Its beak is hewn from illuminating Agate and holds the key to this brilliant sculpture - a worm made of electric green Chrysoprase! Its eyes are a deep bold Garnet and clearly on watch as it enjoys its snack. Mounted on an unusual rock of darkened Quartz populated by grassy green Epidote crystals, the bird definitely knows it is being watched but has no concern as its singular focus on its prey is obvious. The Hoopoe measures 9 inches (22.86 cm) in length and 3 inches (7.62 cm) in width. The overall dimensions for this carving, including its beveled acrylic plinth base, measure 14 inches (35.56 cm) tall, 7.5 inches (19.05 cm) wide and 6.75 inches (17.15 cm) deep. The Hoopoe itself is 9 inches (22.86 cm) from tip to tail, the rock is 8 inches (20.32 cm) high off the base and the acrylic plinth measures 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, 6.5 inches (16.51 cm) deep and 2.5 inches (6.35 cm) tall. This carving commands a further look from any admirer, and the piece is marked with master artist Peter Müller's own collection number 9626.
