A CARVED AND GILDED WOOD STANDING FIGURE OF AMIDA BUDDHAEdo Period, 18th/19th centuryThe face in a serene expression, with the eyes almost closed, bearing the traces of enlightenment with theurna on his forehead, the elongated earlobes and the hands inraigo mudra, dressed in flowing robes the Amidha Buddha is standing on a lotus pedestal supported by an elaborately carved hexagonal four-tiered mount, backed by a gilded woodkohai (nimbus) with a lotus flower right to the back of Amidha's head emanating radiant spokes.51.5cm (20 1/4in) high (5).For further information on this lot please visit theCondition Report: Some loss in the lacquer and general loss of gilt, particularly on the Amida Buddha.A hole drilled next to the Buddha's feet.The lotus flower behind his head has some missing in the decoration surrounding the central blossom, plus it is cracked in two points on the top, with restoration marks, which are still not well fixed; the joint to the reverse has been reattached, as well as probably the top spikes.On the back of the nimbus, where the lotus flower's joint goes in, there is the back part reattached.The lotus pedestal has some petals that have been re-glued and maybe few ones missing. One is broken off but not missing.On the top tier of the mount, on the right side, one of the lotus branches have lost the final part. Some cracks with opening on the wood on the reverse of the mount. The frontal openwork of the third tear has a missing on the central part, and the same happened to the second and fourth enclosed decoration of the second and first tiers. One central flower broken off but not missing. Two of the lanterns of the first tier miss the central ball.One of the frontal foot of the mount has the tip chipped off and one of the side has a layer of lacquer lift up.
