A GEORGE II BURR AND FIGURED WALNUT CHEST OF DRAWERSCIRCA 1730Incorporating fine herringbone inlay throughout74cm high, 76cm wide, 41cm deepProvenance: Private Collection, Suffolk. For a related example of a walnut chest of the period incorporating a caddy top see, Adam Bowett, Early Georgian Furniture 1715-1740, Antiques Collectors Club, 2009, page 103, plate 3:17.Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Chest with the expected old splits, chips and small losses. Some old veneer repairs with small amounts of filler used in places - see images. Timber has a cleaned appearance overall. Feet are old replacements but are well matched to the rest of the piece. Handles and escutcheons are old replacements and are in period taste. Filler has been applied to the backs of the drawer fronts to disguise the holes for the previous fixtures. Locks appear original. No key is present but all locks are open. Some minor evidence of old worm. One small board to the centre of the back is an old replacement. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition.
