A CARVED GILTWOOD AND MARBLE TOPPED CENTRE TABLEIN THE MANNER OF LENYGON & MORANT, EARLY 20TH CENTURYWith carved armorials79cm high, 192.5cm wide, 97.5cm deepIn 1908 Francis Lenygon's showrooms displayed period furniture and reproductions, before purchasing Morant & Co in 1912. As Lenygon & Morant, (fl.1915-1951), the firm were furniture makers, interior designers, interior decorators and upholsterers, holding Royal warrants and catering for wealthy clients in Britain and the United States, including work carried out for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Furniture made in their workshops was rarely marked. The coat of arms is decorative and of indecipherable heraldry. There are some marks, scratches, chips, knocks and abrasions consistent with age and use.The marble top with various scratches, gouges, chips and cracks including some filler; two noticeable to the corners of one long side. The gilding is subdued and in places reveals the underlying terracotta wash, gesso and wood, with knocks and chips There are some cracks including some along the grain of the timber and others showing the sectional construction of the base. One chip to the carving that stands out is the tip of an acanthus scroll beside one of the armorial roundels which shows the underlying wood. All that said these comments on condition are only apparent on close up inspection. Please refer to the additional images for a visual reference of condition.
